Fostering or adopting a Giant can be a great way to get involved with the breed. You’ll get to skip over the challenging puppy and adolescent stages and give an adult Giant a second chance at a great life. There are numerous rescue organizations operating locally, regionally, or nationally in the United States that may have Giants available. Rescues that specialize in Giants or all three size of Schnauzers are good places to start, as are rescues that focus exclusively on working breeds.

GSCA itself is not a rescue organization and does endorse any specific rescue organization, but here are some to consider. Some of these are primarily focused on Miniature Schnauzers but will occasionally have Giants available.

Just as when you are choosing a responsible breeder, it is essential to conduct your due diligence when selecting a rescue organization. For owners considering to rehome their Giant, your first point of contact should always be the breeder who produced your Giant. This is a typical requirement in most puppy contracts from responsible breeders. Good breeders support their Giants for the life of the dog and will work with you to find a new home or take them back as necessary.
