The 2010 Giant Schnauzer National is right around the corner and there is still time to make reservations for the two dinners.  Deadline was 9/1 but I can take reservations for about 1 week more and then that is it – so get them in.

Once again we are going to have a Colorado Giant Schnauzer Picnic!

Reserve Sunday, August 29 for a lot of fun for dogs and humans!  We have reserved the pavilion at Anderson Park, 4355 Field Street, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 (this is between Kipling and Wadsworth off 44th – just south of I-70).  We’ll set up by 11:00 and probably run until people get tired.  It is on the Green Belt and Clear Creek runs through it (Remember 2 years ago when we had 15 Giants swimming in the creek at the same time?) with plenty of shade and parking.

To offset the expense, we are asking for $10.00 per person to cover the cost of the park reservation of the pavilion and the KFC and plates, etc. which we will provide.  Bring a side dish, a salad, a dessert, or something to share and your Giant with a leash, crate, x-pen, or something as they cannot just run loose, and join the crowd. Know any other Giant lovers?  Ask them to come too.

Laurie Mason has volunteered to give anyone who wants it a lesson in pet grooming and clipping for your dog. She’ll have grooming tools and tables.  Barb Arkin and Duchess (her Giant) will give demos in tracking in case anyone else wants to try this sport with their Giant (You do not need a blood hound for this – Giants are great!). Anyone else?  All ideas are welcome!

Hello to all our members.  My purpose in sending this letter to you is not just to beg for donations but, hopefully, to give you an opportunity to sit back and look at the big picture.

Our annual GSCA National Specialty, sponsored this year by the Midwest Region, is only 8 weeks away and exhibitors and competitors are busy training, conditioning and working coats.  The Show Committee is busy planning and finalizing all details.  The National, two Midwest Regionals, Obedience, Rally and Herding Instinct testing and a demonstration are also offered.  We hope you all are making plans to attend this exciting week of events September 22-26 at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Missouri.  This important event is an opportunity for breed enthusiasts to meet for exchange of information, socialization, assessment of breeding stock, education, club and rescue fund raising, membership and club board of directors meetings, annual awards presentations, performance testing, and competition.  It is the showcase of our breed; an opportunity to see in one place, at one time the best our breed has to offer.  As we watch the entries float around the ring or compete in performance events, we are witnessing the Past, Present and Future.  The Giants of the past, through the dedication of breeders, influence what we see in the ring this day and the dogs and promising pups of today give us a glimpse of what the future holds for our breed.

Now is the time to put aside all our differences and come together as one with a single focus on our beloved breed. It’s not about any one of us. It is all about that gorgeous creature sitting beside you. You know who I am talking about. The one with the long beard and dark, wise eyes. The one that holds your heart and soul in his paw!

This is your club and your National event and we need your continued support to help make this an event to remember. You have been more than generous in the past and it is much appreciated. Please consider sponsoring a trophy or donating to the general fund, silent auction and raffle or volunteering your time at the show site. Funds raised are used exclusively to cover trophies, judge and show expense, hospitality and special events.

Several members have contacted me lately wondering why they aren’t getting the periodic emails that the board sends out to the members, or that they can’t log in to the site at all.

One of the common issues is that the members’ accounts are associated with an old email address.  As a result, all communication from the website goes to an email inbox that isn’t being monitored.

If you are finding yourself in a similar situation, send me an email.  I’ll update your member account email address and send you a notice letting you know that your account has been updated.

You can then log in and update your email address and choose a new password if desired.  If you are having trouble remembering your password, read this.

Enter your username in the login area, then select “Lost Your Password” and submit the form.  The website will automatically send an email with your new password to your email address.  You can then log in and update your email address and choose a new password if desired.

It is time for publication of Source Book X.  If you, (all Giant Schnauzer owners, not just club members), have a dog or bitch who received a championship or title during the years of 2007, 2008 and/or 2009, then you are invited and to participate in this publication.  For this publication we have 406 American champions and title holders who are possible contributors to the book and we are hoping that each and every one of them will have a photo.
