Digital Squamous Cell Carcinoma in the Giant Schnauzer, Saturday, October 20, 2007 2007 Health & Heredity Report, Saturday, October 20, 2007 CHIC The Giant Schnauzer Club of America (GSCA) is pleased to announce that AKC registered Giant Schnauzers can now participate in the Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) DNA Database program! The research performed with these DNA samples will help future Giants and humans alike. All it takes is a one time DNA sample donation, which will then be held in a single DNA Database for distributed to multiple DNA research projects. While it would be wonderful if the Giant was also a CHIC dog, it is not a requirement for participation. The To participate go to the Canine Health Information Center home page at http://www.caninehealthinfo.org/ and select the “DNA Bank” link. At the bottom of the page you will find the links to download the DNA Application Form, along with the Canine Health Information Center, DNA Bank: AKC – AKC Dog Pedigrees: Online Research Pedigrees: The AKC DNA Profile Program documents and identifies individual AKC registered animals. AKC DNA Profile Program: Please forward this information to all owners of AKC registered CHIC breeds. It is important for all of us to contribute to the future of our beloved companions! CHIC Information, Wednesday, July 12, 2006 The Canine Health Information Center provides participation breed clubs with quarterly reports on qualifying dogs. At this time the requirements for the Giant Schnauzer are: Hip certification (OFA or Penn-Hip), CERF, and thyroid testing. If you have a dog that qualifies please contact CHIC to find out what you need to do to include your Giant with these reports. Future reports will be posted on the GSCA Health CHIC Listing of Giant Schnauzers Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club shares a webpage of upcoming canine health testing clinics throughout the United States, Saturday, November 19, 2005 The Cavalier Club is keeping an updated listing of health clinics throughout the US. If your dog needs a CERF exam or microchipping, you can check their site for dates and clinics available. They are listed by location and by date. If you know of a health clinic coming up in your area, please contact Rod Russell so he can add it to the list. http://www.cavalierhealth.org/health_clinics.htm Longevity Study Looking for Participants Tuesday, October 18, 2005 GSCA Official Participant in CHIC Program Saturday, July 16, 2005 GSCA is officially a participant in the CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) program. The Giant Schnauzer has been added to the list of CHIC breeds. At this point only ten dogs qualify though. To qualify a dog, the owner/breeder must have the three certifications/tests (Hips, thyroid, CERF), filed these results with OFA, Penn-Hip, or CERF and signed the release allowing this information to be released to the public. Please refer to the links below for more details on getting your dog(s) listed.
